In 2015, Robert Young Pelton was leaving the IWA show and on his way to LionSteel's factory. Along the way, LionSteel's owner, Gianni Pauletta, and RYP got into a discussion on elegance vs. toughness. Could a knife be both brutally tough and an elegant gentleman's folder at the same time? Pelton then sketched out the design for what would become the DPx Gear Aculus on a napkin: a thin, curved, 3.26" folding knife that flowed into a sculpted handle machined out of a solid block of titanium alloy, blending a thin sword grind blade with a gently arced, ergonomic handle. As you can imagine, it is not easy or simple to carve a block of titanium into a piece of sculpture, but Pelton and Pauletta did it.
In 2016, DPx Gear released only 100 of these special knives. Pelton and DPx Gear were known for creating short, innovative, heirloom-quality knives for their customers — among them, those equipping special forces ODAs. Pelton's design was licensed by LionSteel as the wildly successful T-Spine; again, shortened versions appeared in Damascus and went straight to collectors' vaults. Blackwater ordered a numbered run to give as gifts to VIPs, which came in a molded plexiglass case with magnetic clasps.
Two more limited runs appeared in a diamond pattern and a wave pattern, and now the rarest and most coveted member of the DPx family is back to celebrate a decade of innovation and quality: introducing the DPx Gear Aculus Decade Edition. American-made MagnaCut blade in a high saber grind, flipper movement with custom IKBS bearings, and the most elegant pattern we've released yet — the Wave. Still sculpted from a single block of titanium alloy, still featuring the deepest pocket-clip carry you can create, and still produced in small enough numbers to make this a collectible.
